Note: To qualify for credit a course must be directly related to the professional growth and development of the professional engineer. The following courses are designed to provide technical, managerial, or ethical/legal instruction to enhance the professional engineer's practice.  The responsibility is placed on the registrant to determine which courses meet continuing education requirements in states that do not pre-approve courses or sponsors of continuing education courses. The Kentucky Board of Licensure does not pre-approve engineering continuing professional development courses. 

AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR TESTING AND MATERIAL STANDARDS (ASTM) - 3 PDH - Course reviews the history of ASTM Standards for development and construction related materials and their acceptance for use by individuals, companies and institutions.  Various construction materials are referenced with respect to strength, installation and other applicable elements.  Course cost is $60.00.

THE EFFECTIVE LEADER - 3 PDH - Course explores various character traits that are necessary to improve the leader's effectiveness in positively impacting his/her organization.  In addition it describes the relationship between character and a professional code of conduct.  Course cost is $60.00.

DRAFTING TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS - 2 PDH - Course focuses on preparing contract documents with an emphasis on technical specifications typically associated with a construction project.  Course cost is $40.00.

INTRODUCTION TO LOW IMPACT DEVELOPMENT (LID) - 3 PDH - Course provides a basic understanding of the concepts of Low Impact Development, gives a summary of the Clean Water Act and covers best management practices applicable to LID.  In addition, it describes typical local, state and federal permitting requirements, costs, funding opportunities and case studies of completed LID projects.  Course cost is $60.00.

SECRETS OF PRODUCTIVE MEETINGS - 3 PDH - Course provides a framework, for those who conduct or participate in meetings, to follow to make meetings the most productive.  "Secrets" are provided to assist the meeting leader in getting the most from project briefings, advisory meetings or a negotiation.  Course cost is $60.00.

STREAMBANK RESTORATION - 3 PDH - Course provides several methods to restore those streambanks that have been changed/degraded by development, erosion, and channelization to a more natural condition.  Course cost is $60.00.

PREPARING FOR AN IRS AUDIT - 2 PDH - Course provides a review of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) audit process.  It details the individual taxpayer's and the business taxpayer's responsibilities and rights with respect to a tax return audit and interview.  Course cost is $40.00.

ENGINEERING'S IMPACT ON THE WORLD - 3 PDH - Course provides a brief history of the engineering profession from its beginnings to current time.  It offers highlights across the centuries of people, processes and technologies and their impact on our world.  Course cost is $60.00.

OIL AND GAS WELL PERMITTING (IN KENTUCKY) - 2 PDH - Course reviews the various statutes and regulations of the application permit for oil and gas wells in the state and the engineer's role in the process.  Course cost is $40.00.

MARKETING - 2 PDH - Course covers basic components of marketing professional services and provides tips and ideas to help in reaching prospective clients.  Course cost is $40.00.

SURVIVING THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS - 4 PDH - Course follows a project from the initial zone change to submittal of construction plans by reviewing state statutes and common procedures involved with the development process.  Course cost is $80.00.

CONTRACTS - 3 PDH - Course reviews guidelines to assist the engineer in better understanding, drafting and executing contracts.  Course cost is $60.00.

TRAIL DESIGN - 3 PDH - Course covers design considerations for mixed use trails.  Course cost is $60.00.

MANAGING TAXES - 4 PDH - Course reviews changes in income tax law that impacts the professional engineer or his/her business.  Course also provides a guide to assess the current and future financial condition of the business and offers methods to protect the individual and business from identity theft.  Course cost is $80.00.

SAFE TRAFFIC CONTROL PRACTICES - 3 PDH - Course reviews traffic control methods in work zones.  Course cost is $60.00.

SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT - 3 PDH - Course provides an overview of tax laws and how they apply to small business.  Course cost is $60.00.

THE INTERNET AS A RESOURCE - 3 PDH - Course reviews how the Internet can assist the engineer in accessing websites beneficial to the conduct of business.  Course cost is $60.00.

OFFICE MANAGEMENT - 3 PDH - Course describes the importance of strategic planning, getting employee feedback, developing the professional capabilities of employees and building project teams that get results.  Course cost is $60.00.

DRAINAGE STUDIES AND ELEVATION CERTIFICATES - 3 PDH - Course reviews flood plains, drainage studies and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) elevation certificates.  Course cost is $60.00.

GPS AND GIS BASICS - 2 PDH - Course reviews basic GIS procedures and methods for obtaining and submitting digital information.  Course cost is $40.00.

AN ENGINEER'S ROLE IN SITE DEVELOPMENT - 2 PDH - Course presents an overview of responsibilities an engineer may have during a site development.  Course cost is $40.00.

STARTING AN ENGINEERING COMPANY - 3 PDH - Course describes issues involved in starting a business.  Course cost is $60.00.

CONTOUR MAPPING - 2 PDH - Course reviews methods used to develop contour maps and how contour maps are used during the design process and project development.  Course cost is $40.00.

EROSION CONTROL FOR CONSTRUCTION SITES - 2 PDH - Course reviews basic methods pertaining to effective erosion control.  Course cost is $40.00.

SITE ASSESSMENT AND CONSTRUCTION PLAN DEVELOPMENT - 3 PDH - Course reviews the assessment of a proposed development and the field data needed to develop construction plans.  It also covers various methods used to collect the data and describes the interpretation and plan development from that data.  Course cost is $60.00.

PREPARING CONTRACT DOCUMENTS - 3 PDH - This course provides guidance in the preparation of contract documents.  It describes how the work is to be completed, sets the payment schedule, provides methods to resolve disagreements and defines other aspects of the agreement between the parties involved.  Course cost is $60.00.

STAFF MANAGEMENT - 2 PDH - This course reviews the major management areas of recruitment, hiring, employee development, evaluation, and discipline.  It also references applicable hiring and labor laws.  Effective company management and leadership can maximize employee strengths and enhance their ability to contribute to the overall success of the company.  Course cost is $40.00.

IMPROVING WORK PERFORMANCE - 4 PDH - Course covers several strategies and tips to assist the professional in developing and enhancing the effective and better use of his/her time leading to improved work performance on those tasks that contribute to achieving an individual’s and/or an organization’s objectives and goals.  It also discusses the important topic of work-life balance. Course cost is $80.00.

THE EXPERT WITNESS - 4 PDH - This course provides information to help prepare the professional for his/her role as an expert witness by describing the attorney-client relationship, detailing what the expert witness should do to satisfy contractual duties in and out of the courtroom and how to effectively use visual aids to support testimony.  Course cost is $80.00.

OSHA MULTI-EMPLOYER JOBSITES - 2 PDH - This course is designed to help employers and individuals understand the specific roles, responsibilities, and accountability for safety when there are multiple employers and contractors on a jobsite.  Course cost is $40.00. 

WATERSHED MANAGEMENT - 2 PDH - Course reviews federal and state regulations and the various phases involved in effectively controlling storm water runoff.  Course cost is $40.00.

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT - 2 PDH - Course reviews best management practices involved in initial development site grading and infrastructure installation to project completion.  It also covers work zone, environmental and job site dangers.  Course cost is $40.00.

PARKING LOT DESIGN GUIDELINES - 3 PDH - Course provides details on effective parking lot layout while minimizing environmental impacts.  It evaluates factors such as access points, drop-off and parking areas, emergency and service vehicles and barrier free accessibility.  Course cost is $60.00.

GPS MAPPING - 2 PDH - Course reviews Global Positioning Systems and describes methods to be used in accurately collecting existing and as-built conditions to assist in design and to generate detailed site maps.  Course cost is $40.00. 

WETLANDS - 2 PDH - Course covers the regulatory requirements, technical guidelines of wetlands, characteristics of wetlands and identification methods.  Course cost is $40.00. 

KENTUCKY PLANNING AND ZONING - 2 PDH - Course reviews Kentucky Planning and Zoning Statutes (KRS 100), other planning and zoning issues and a basic overview of the development process.  Course cost is $40.00.
 
FLOOD PLAIN MANAGEMENT - 2 PDH - Course covers the evaluation and mapping of flood plains and discusses the various permitting issues for each flood zone.  Course cost is $40.00.

FORENSICS - 2 PDH - Course provides an overview of the advancing field of investigation known as forensics.  It includes discussions on civil, chemical, metallurgical and surveying applications.  Course cost is $40.00. 

WATER QUALITY METHODS FOR PARKING LOT DESIGN - 2 PDH - Course reviews basic methods that can be used to meet permanent water quality standards for parking lot construction.  Course cost is $40.00.
 
STORM PIPING MATERIALS - 2 PDH - Course describes best management practices for selection of the most appropriate materials for a project including specific characteristics such as strength, durability, hydraulic efficiency, capacity and installation costs.  Course cost is $40.00.

HYDROGRAPHIC MAPPING - 2 PDH - Course reviews various aspects of hydrographic surveys for mapping purposes and other uses pertinent to the practice of engineering.  Course cost is $40.00.

INSURANCE 101 - 2 PDH - Course covers the basic concepts of property-casualty insurance and its application with respect to individual and business policyholders.  Course cost is $40.00.
 
SUBDIVISION AND LAND USE PLANNING - 2 PDH - Course reviews land use planning and subdivision layout guidelines.  Guidance is presented regarding assessing external and on-site development factors including road rights-of-way, access and topography.  Course cost is $40.00. 

KENTUCKY CODE OF CONDUCT (ETHICS) - 2 PDH - Course provides an overview of the adopted code of conduct for Kentucky engineers.  Course cost is $40.00.

OHIO CODE OF CONDUCT (ETHICS) - 2 PDH - Course covers the adopted code of conduct for Ohio engineers.  Course cost is $40.00. 


To order - complete registration form and mail with corresponding payment for either PDF or CD-ROM course format.  Each course consists of a PowerPoint presentation, a set of handouts and a 20-question exam covering the course content.  Successful completion of the course exam is a 75% passing score.  A certificate will be issued to verify earned professional development hours of credit per course completed.  Please note that certificates can only be issued to those who pay for the PDF or CD-ROM course(s).

Once the registration form and payment are received for the course(s) the PDF files will be sent by email within 24 hours of receiving the course order and payment.  The CD-ROM, handout(s) and exam will be sent by first class mail within 2 business days of receiving the course order with payment.  The certificate(s) are usually mailed or emailed within 2 working days once the completed exam(s) is(are) returned by email, fax or through the U.S. Postal Service.
