LOCATING RIPARIAN BOUNDARIES - 4 PDH - Course reviews principles and practices related to locating property boundaries for riparian property.  It covers riparian law and the impact of significant court cases.  It reference several state surveying standards contained in 201 Kentucky Administrative Regulations 18:150.  These regulations and example case studies provided emphasize a specific regulation or standard as it relate to riparian properties.  Pre-approved for Kentucky land surveyors.  Course cost is $80.00.

KENTUCKY'S NORTHERN BOUNDARY - 4 PDH - Course traces the exploration and historical boundary determination of the Ohio River and Kentucky.  It describes the navigation of the Ohio River and modernization efforts from its early days to the present time and covers the 1980 Supreme Court decision which settled the lengthy and often contested Kentucky boundary and subsequent survey to determine the 1792 low water mark.  Pre-approved for Kentucky land surveyors.  Course cost is $80.00.

VOLUMETRIC SURVEYS - 4 PDH - Course covers various methods of collecting data for volumetric surveys.  It describes their importance in quantity assessments for project site management and decision making and reviews issues related to calculating the volume of stored or excavated material to provide safeguards against future disputes between developers, builders and contractors when dealing with large contractual quantities of material.  Applicable Kentucky Revised Statutes and Kentucky Administrative Regulations are also referenced.  Pre-approved for Kentucky land surveyors.  Course cost is $80.00.

TOMORROW'S LAND SURVEYOR - 4 PDH - Course covers technology innovations that are quickly changing professional land surveying including scanning total stations, Global Navigation Satellite Systems with visual positioning, drone data capture, smart software technology using Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and the Internet of Things.  The course also identifies a number of challenges presented and those anticipated in the future affecting the land surveyor.  Applicable Kentucky Administrative Regulations and Kentucky Revised Statutes are referenced. SUBMITTING FINAL DOCUMENTS - 2 PDH - Course covers general procedures related to submitting documents to government agencies for final approval.  It also addresses the land surveyor's supervision of work, responsibilities for certification and professional conduct.  Pre-approved for Kentucky land surveyors.  Course cost is $40.00.

AS-BUILT SURVEYING - 2 PDH - Course reviews as-built surveys as they apply to the location of public improvements and infrastructure such as roads, sewers and utilities.  In addition it covers applicable Kentucky Revised Statutes and specific sections of 201 Kentucky Administrative Regulations 18:150.  It describes surveying methods that can be used in data collection and measurement errors/accuracy determination.  Non-boundary survey standards are also referenced.  Pre-approved for Kentucky land surveyors.  Course cost is $40.00.

SURVEYS INVOLVING FEDERAL LAND - 4 PDH - Course focus is on surveys in or near federally owned land in Kentucky.  Areas referenced in this course are the Daniel Boone National Forest, Mammoth Cave National Park and Cumberland Gap National Historic Park. In addition, applicable Kentucky Administrative Regulations and Kentucky Revised Statutes are covered, as is a typical survey, to further emphasize the land surveyor's responsibility when surveying lands involving federally owned land.  Pre-approved in Kentucky for land surveyors.  Course cost is $80.00.

THE SURVEYOR AND THE PLANNING COMMISSION - 4 PDH - Course reviews the establishment of planning commissions, types, authority and hearings to assist the land surveyor in better understanding the overall project development process.  It also provides detail on the board of adjustment component. More importantly the role and responsibilities a land surveyor has to a client and the land surveying profession when appearing as a representative or witness at planning commission hearings.  Applicable Kentucky Revised Statutes and Kentucky Administrative Regulations are covered. BOUNDARY SURVEYING STANDARDS - 4 PDH - Course reviews the surveying standards for boundary surveys.  Applicable Kentucky Administrative Regulations and Kentucky Revised Statutes are referenced and case studies are provided to emphasize specific sections of the standards of practice for boundary surveys and the land surveyor's responsibilities. In addition the course references checklists for both plats and descriptions to assist the land surveyor with boundary surveying documentation.  Pre-approved in Kentucky for land surveyors.  Course cost is $80.00.  (Note: This course should not be confused with the Standards of Practice/Ethics/Code of Conduct that is required every 4 years).

BOUNDARY SURVEY ISSUES - 4 PDH - Course reviews issues that can occur during boundary surveys which may make it difficult to locate boundary lines. Boundary law principles and methods that can be used by the land surveyor to locate boundaries when problems occur are covered as are applicable Kentucky Administrative Regulations and Kentucky Revised Statutes. NSRS MODERNIZATION - 4 PDH - Course provides an overview of the National Spatial Reference System and its proposed modernization by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration through the National Geodetic Survey.  In addition, the course lists the rationale and benefits to replace the North American Datum 1983 (NAD83) and the North American Vertical Datum (NAVD88).  It also covers Kentucky's plan to meet NGS requirements by revising its State Plane Coordinate System.  Course cost is $80.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

UNMANNED AERIAL SYSTEMS - 4 PDH - Course provides an overview of unmanned aerial systems popularly known as drones.  It covers the evolution of technology that allows for the commercial use of them in data collection, aerial photography, imaging, etc.  In addition the rules and best practices are reviewed.  Remote identification, flight over people and at night operation is covered.  Factors to consider when choosing a system are also addressed.  Unmanned aerial systems/drones can be a very useful tool for the land surveyor.  Course cost is $80.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

PREPARING FOR AN OSHA INSPECTION - 4 PDH - Course covers what triggers an inspection, what the land surveyor, as an employer, and employees need to know, stages of an inspection, steps companies can take to prepare for an inspection, workplace citations and safety penalties.  It also provides options available to the employer if a notice of citation is received.  Injury and illness recordkeeping and reporting requirements are addressed as are worker rights and protections.  In addition, the Kentucky Administrative Regulations are covered that describe the land surveyor's responsibility for safety.  Course cost is $80.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

SEALS AND SIGNATURES - 2 PDH - Course covers the use of seals and signatures as described in Kentucky Administrative Regulations and Kentucky Revised Statutes.  The authentication process benefits the land surveyor in electronic or web-based transactions.  The course also reviews security, file sharing and the electronic submission of work products in addition to other available methods of securely protecting and transmitting documents and/or messages.  Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

RESOLVING BOUNDARY DISPUTES - 4 PDH - Course reviews various scenarios involving possible boundary disputes and principles and procedures related to resolving them.  The land surveyor's responsibilities are described for situations related to informal and formal mediation.  Case studies and Kentucky Administrative Regulations are referenced to emphasize the obligation of the surveyor to the public, to clients and to other land surveyors.  Course cost is $80.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

WORKING IN A DIGITAL WORLD - 4 PDH - Course explores existing opportunities for the land surveyor to remotely access development process, annexations, planning and zoning and plan review resources.  Applicable Kentucky Administrative Regulations and Kentucky Revised Statutes are referenced.  Data storage, file sharing and mobile security are also covered.  Course cost is $80.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

ALTA/NSPS SURVEY STANDARDS - 4 PDH - Course provides a detailed review of the American Land Title Association/National Society of Professional Surveyors survey standards.  It covers the standards, field work, plat, required certifications and other information necessary to assist the land surveyor in completing an acceptable ALTA/NSPS survey.  Course cost is $80.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

RECORDS RETENTION - 2 PDH - Course covers applicable 201 Kentucky Administrative Regulations 18 and Kentucky Revised Statutes 322 for retention of work products.  In addition it addresses records preservation, indexing of records and the transfer of assets/liabilities when companies or individual land surveying practices are sold or consolidated.  Course cost is $40.00. MANAGING RISK - 2 PDH - Course covers issues resulting from errors and omissions by the professional land surveyor or surveying company.  In addition it reviews applicable Kentucky Administrative Regulations and Kentucky Revised Statutes and professional liability insurance.  Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

LANDFILL SURVEYING - 2 PDH - Course reviews issues related to land surveys that are needed for permitting and managing a landfill.  It covers various Kentucky Revised Statutes and Administrative Regulations that pertain to solid waste management and the land surveyor's work responsibilities when providing surveys on or near a landfill.  Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved for KY land surveyors.

LEASE BOUNDARY SURVEYS - 2 PDH - Course reviews issues related to surveying lease boundaries.  It covers the Kentucky surveying standards that apply and offers case studies to further emphasize the land surveyor's responsibility when surveying lease boundaries.  Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved for KY land surveyors.

INSTRUMENT CARE AND CALIBRATION - 4 PDH - Course reviews administrative regulations and requirements related to the adjustment, maintenance and calibration of surveying instruments and equipment.  It also describes proper use and general care of the equipment to obtain optimal performance from it.  Methods of testing, adjustment and calibration are also covered.  Course cost is $80.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

SURVEYING WETLANDS - 2 PDH - Course reviews issues associated with wetlands and the role land surveying plays in surveying and mapping environmentally sensitive areas identified as wetlands.  It describes various data gathering methods and covers several federal and state regulations and permitting. Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved for KY land surveyors.

CEMETERY SURVEYING - 2 PDH - Course reviews surveying cemeteries which may include compiling a complete description and location of all memorial markers, layout of gravesites and survey of the cemetery boundary.  Surveying standards related to cemeteries are also covered.  Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

SURVEYING IN URBAN AREAS - 4 PDH - This course provides an overview of urban area surveys including issues related to development and redevelopment in downtown areas and annexations.  The land surveyor often plays an important role in the planning, infrastructure development and construction of roads and other urban facilities and the proper use of the land.  Surveying standards applicable to these types of surveys are also covered.  Course cost is $80.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

EVOLUTION OF SURVEYING TECHNOLOGY - 4 PDH - This course provides an overview of the 'quantum leaps' in surveying technology during the past 50 years.  The biggest changes have occurred with the electronic distance meter (EDM), the total station, Global Positioning System (GPS), robotic total station and laser scanner.  Unmanned aircraft systems/drones may be the latest leap in technology for the land surveyor.  Course cost is $80.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

TOPOGRAPHIC SURVEYS - 4 PDH - This course covers several methods of data collection used to complete a topographic survey, processing the field data and uses of a topographic map.  Various accuracy standards are reviewed and references made to regulations and statutes that apply to conducting non-boundary surveys such as the topographic survey.  Course cost is $80.00.  Pre-approved for KY land surveyors.

LAWS OF EVIDENCE - 2 PDH - The course covers the various types of evidence related to surveying property boundaries and provides general information on how evidence is traditionally considered in legal decisions.  Case studies are provided to further emphasize the laws of evidence.  Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

ENCROACHMENTS, EASEMENTS AND ADVERSE POSSESSION - 2 PDH - The course reviews commonly encountered issues related to encroachments, their impact on easements and adverse possession.  It also covers applicable sections of 201 Kentucky Administrative Regulations 18:150 that address a surveyor's responsibility when an encroachment is discoverd and provides examples to emphasize or explain a principle.  Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

WORK ETHICS - 2 PDH - Applicable sections of Kentucky Administrative Regulations 18:142 are reviewed to provide ethical guidance for the surveyor to follow when working with the public and others.  In addition, a number of case studies are presented that emphasize various ethical principles. Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

EVALUATING EVIDENCE - 4 PDH - This course provides a review of the various factors that should be evaluated when conducting a boundary survey.  Case studies are provided to assist the surveyor in understanding his/her role in the process.  Course cost is $80.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

AIR RIGHTS - 2 PDH - The course reviews state statutes and various issues related to air rights.  It also covers Kentucky Revised Statues that apply to surveying and the Condominium Act, and the monumentation and documentation of these property rights.  Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

MONUMENTATION - 2 PDH - This course reviews the Kentucky standards of practice for monumentation of surveys.  The standards are found in Section 9 of 201 Kentucky Administrative Regulations 18:150.  These standards apply to all boundary surveys or resurveys in Kentucky. Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

GPS BOUNDARY SURVEYING - 4 PDH - This course provides a discussion of the use of Global Positioning Systems in boundary surveying.  It covers various GPS surveying methods, equipment, field procedures, and errors.  GPS surveying standards including closure and required plat notes are also described.  Course cost is $80.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

SURVEYING FOR RURAL SUBDIVISIONS - 4 PDH - This course details the administrative process related to developing rural subdivisions including required applications, plans, plats, permits, standards and certifications.  It also describes the land surveyor's responsibilities and surveying steps involved in his/her layout and development.  Course cost is $80.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

NON-BOUNDARY SURVEY STANDARDS - 2 PDH - This course reviews land surveying technical standards for non-boundary survey work products that covers topographic, geodetic, construction and other surveys. Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

PRINCIPLES OF SURVEYING - 4 PDH - This course focuses on surveying types and the various equipment and methods used to perform them.  In addition, it describes how surveying is involved in the very demanding development process and takes a look at the challenges and changes for the future surveyor and the surveying profession.  Course cost is $80.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

A PROFESSION FOR THE AGES - 4 PDH - This course focuses on the surveying profession and covers surveying's past, present and future.  It describes how surveying techniques and technology have evolved and benefitted mankind from the earliest of time to today's applications and capabilities to what technologies and challenges may lie ahead for future surveyors.  Course cost is $80.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

RECORD  SURVEYING DOCUMENTS - 2 PDH - This course provides a review of land surveying technical standards relating to record documents for Kentucky professional land surveyors.  An emphasis is placed on the 2010 amendments/revisions to the Kentucky Standards of Practice with respect to legal descriptions and plats.  Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

RELATIVE POSITIONAL ACCURACY - 2 PDH - The purpose of this course is to review concepts of Relative Positional Accuracy (RPA) and provide information on accuracy standards for both horizontal and vertical measurements.  It also provides examples of RPA calculations.  Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors. 

SURVEYING FOR CONTOUR MAPS - 2 PDH - The course reviews methods used to develop contour maps, the surveyor's role in gathering field data and how contour maps can be used during the design process.  Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

ESTABLISHING THE KY - TN BORDER - 2 PDH - The purpose of this course is to retrace the steps of over 130 years of surveying that led to the determination and monumentation of the common state boundary line of Kentucky and Tennessee.  Over this time there were a number of surveyors and survey teams who interacted with state legislatures and the courts in seeking a final resolution to establishing the Kentucky - Tennessee border.  Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

UNDERGROUND SURVEYING - 2 PDH - This course provides an overview of the necessary steps to perform subsurface or underground mining and quarrying surveying and mapping.  It addresses the required Mine Safety and Health Administration training, procedures and regulations including the surveyor's personal protection equipment and clothing.  Course cost is $40.00.  Pre-approved in KY for land surveyors.

To order - Complete a registration form and mail with corresponding payment for either a PDF or CD-ROM course format.  Each course consists of a PowerPoint presentation, course narrative, any appropriate handout(s) and a 20-question exam covering the course content.  Successful completion of the course exam is a 75% passing score.  A certificate will be issued to verify earned professional development hours of credit per course completed.  Please note that certificates can only be issued to those who pay for the PDF or CD-ROM course(s).

Once the registration form and payment are received for the course(s) PDF files will be sent by email within 24 hours of receiving the course order and payment.  The CD-ROM course order will be sent by first class mail within 2 business days of receiving the course order with payment.  Certificates for course completion are mailed or emailed within 2 working days once the completed exam(s) is(are) returned by email, fax or through the U.S. Postal Service.
